Search Engine spiders crawling Minti
Great news: The Search Engine’s spiders have been furiously crawling all through the Minti site!

Of the big 3 Search Engines…

  1. Google: Has a lot of our web pages indexed, and also a lot of sites indexed that are linking to Minti.
  2. Yahoo!: Has the least of our web pages indexed, however still have indexed a lot of websites linking to Minti.
  3. MSN: Has a lot of our web pages indexed, and also a lot of sites indexed that are linking to Minti.

Summary: After only 10 or so days of life Minti has certainly been noticed by the Search Engines and they are loving it :)

Technology behind Minti

Tech

A few people have asked me… what do you have under the hood of Minti?

Well here it is… Straight from our developer’s mouth ;)

The site utilises PostgreSQL (www.postgresql.org) as the database. It allows for advanced transaction support and incredible storage capacities. As a webserver we are using Apache 2, the world’s most popular and advanced daemon. PHP is the tool of choice for advanced server-side scripting and we use it to craft our HTML and handle the logic in the site. AJAX plays a big role ensuring that interaction with the site is as quick and seamless as possible.

Coming Features

14

March

We had a “coming features” meeting on Monday and have been able to plan what new features we will be rolling out over the next 3 - 6 weeks.

The next big thing due out on Minti is “group” functionality. Minti is very focused on creating a social community for parents… the group functionality we have planned is targetted directly at significantly improving this. Stay tuned! :)

There is also a whole bunch of small improvements being worked on as we speak (some have already been made live on the site).

del.icio.us = 361

361 people have added the Minti homepage to their del.icio.us account. In 6 days that’s not too bad at all, considering MySpace only has 1,930 ;)

Alexa spikes for Minti

14

March

Alexa

Minti launched less than a week ago and we have already experienced massive spikes in traffic caused largely due to the blog publicity (especially the TechCrunch review).

It is great to view the Alexaholic chart. According to a good source at one stage on Saturday Alexa had Minti in the top 2,500 sites on the Internet! (This graph doesn’t show it due to end of day figures… however it certainly does show one wild ride!)…

A big blog round up

14

March

What a wild weekend we had. Traffic was way above expectations and the server team did an awesome job of last minute configuration changes to handle the load.

Following on from the TechCrunch article Minti has been mentioned in a bunch of other blogs spanning the globe and we have enjoyed getting feedback from all sorts of places. Particularly positive have been the comments about the look and feel of the site plus its easy navigation. We have had to spell out our plans for the future on some posts so that people understand there is much more to come from the Minti team. We have raised enough money to really support and develop the parenting community allowing parents to share and rank without any hidden agenda from the team here.

Here is a blog mention round-up (in no particular order just as I came across them):

  1. After an initial quick mention, Wandering Indian Monk then took the time to give the site a good test drive and review including some positive feedback here
  2. Pure Play from Ireland expanded on the issue of content ownership mentioned in the Techcrunch post and gave Minti a mention here
  3. Ryan at Web Things Considered matched Minti to some of his own thoughts on parenting and shared ideas he had for such a community here
  4. Lifehacker picked us up with a quick post and quote from our “First visit?” preso here
  5. Rob at Cool Tools for Online Fools gave Minti a one line mention here
  6. Dadventure took a look at the site and commented on the “free of spin” factor here
  7. Christine who manages one of our favourite parenting blogs - parentingideas.org - was very complimentary here
  8. We got a bit of real estate space on the Sellsius blog with a large sleeping tip quote taken from the site here a bit more details than we would normally like on a blog ;)
  9. Gerard from the Netherlands who writes Presurfer gave us a quick mention here
  10.  Minzoo gave Minti a quick review and mentioned the global parent support group perspective here
  11. The Google Operating System blog took a look at our design and extracted a few tips on reading here
  12. Designer Emily Chang’s eHub blog picked us up with a one line mention here
  13. Stay at home Dad Brian mentioned Minti in his quick bites on Dad oriented blog Rebel Dad see if you can spot us here
  14. Mom’s Andrea and Jennifer liked the Minti Tag-cloud and discussed it on Daniel’s Blog here.
  15. Rajesh at Sacred Matrix wrote a few notes here
  16. Local friend James Tauber gave us a launch mention here

There must be a few I missed out but there is an attempted blog-roll. Thanks all for the mentions and feedback!

We are working hard to continually improve the site and to grow both membership and content so expect to have more to write about soon !
